People who are blind or visually impaired are entitled to equality of access to education and training that requires use of visual graphic data. The conversion of these visual images into traditional tactile formats opens the door to accessibility and inclusion but has in the past always needed the assistance, usually on a one to one basis, of a trainer to explain the tactile diagram or the addition of Braille notations. Without this specialist support people who are blind or visually impaired are particularly disadvantaged when studying in a distance learning situation.
This project will provide an innovative method of delivering visual graphics to people who are blind or visually impaired by using tactile diagrams with integrated sound files through the medium of Talking Tactile Technology.
The main target group for this project are learners who are blind or visually impaired studying on distance learning programmes, with the secondary benefit to education and training providers.
